It was my birthday last month. Here are some great things that happened on the day:

-My amazing boyfriend and my genius best friend threw me a surprise party. I thought we were going on a date, but when I got to the venue, all my friends were there, yelling “Happy birthday!” I stood, still, mouth agape no doubt, for a while – until one of my friends shouted, “Well, come over here, won’t you?” My friends are amazing.

-As I was standing, shocked, somebody crept up behind me and covered my eyes with their hands. For some reason, I reached behind my head to feel the other person’s head. I felt curls. Lots of thick, soft curls. HANNAH! Hannah, my best friend who lives in Dublin, had flown all the way over here to surprise me and to be with me on my birthday.

-During the day I received not one but two emails from the past. 19-year-old Davinia and 22-year-old Davinia had seen fit to send, through FutureMe, an email to 24-year-old me (within ten minutes of each other!) which both went something like this:

Hi, old Davinia!
Happy birthday! Just a quick note to let you know I have better skin than you do. Also, you had goddamn better be doing something with yourself. Like moving country. Just saying.
Love,
Past Davinia

Well, Past Davinia (s?), you’ve no idea how spot on you were with your predictions.

Which brings me to my big news.

I’m moving to Dublin.

Yes! I’m leaving the rock. I’m packing my bags and leavin’ on a jetplane (well, a low cost airline anyway) to literally greener pastures next month. 19-year-old Davinia, Def Leppard T-shirt and all, would be so proud of me!

I’m going to be doing my Masters at a Dublin university and I’m going to be living with Hannah. Which means we are going to play more Scrabble than anyone has ever played before. Ever.

Am I scared? Sure, but in a good way. I’m leaving all I know behind to move to a new country, for Chrissakes! Am I excited? HELLS YES.

This is going to be my new home, you guys:
