September is here, and it has brought with it a definite change of weather. Unlike a lot of people, I am happiest when the skies are grey and the air is crisp and cold.

This may seem strange, seeing how I live on a hot island. Summer here is hot and it feels neverending. In summer, we become water creatures, because it is the only way to deal with the heat, unless you decide to spend your entire day in an air conditioned room.

Summer brings with it memories of childhood – of sand and of ice creams. But there comes a point in August when the heat is unbearable.

This change in weather makes me feel content as it heralds the coming of winter. Soon, we will be able to wear jackets and sweaters again. We’ll be covering up and our feet will be warm and toasty in woollen socks. We’ll wear boots and jeans again. We’ll drink hot chocolate and eat chestnuts while we watch House MD and listen to Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah.

I’ll start making banana bread again, and soups.

And soon enough, Christmas will be here and that means family and friends, parties and gifts, songs and lights.

I can’t wait.
